Mohammed grew up in Ethiopia before his family immigrated to the United States and settled here in Minnesota. He briefly ran for Highland Park High School but didn’t find his potential until enrolling at Augsburg University and joining their cross country program.

As a freshman at Augsburg, Bati ran in eight races and won five of them. He earned MIAC Rookie of the Year honors, was named MIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week four times, set a new school record in the 8K, became the first Augsburg male cross country conference champion, and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships. He experienced ups and downs throughout the rest of his collegiate career, but ended his collegiate career as a Division III Indoor Track All-American in the 5K (7th, 2025), and as runner up at the 2025 Division III Cross Country National Championships (23:39.6, 8K).

On December 7th, 2025, Mohammed ran the California International Marathon, which also acted as the 2025 US Marathon Championships, in a time of 2:12.29 and placed 11th. He decided to forgo any remaining collegiate eligibility and has joined Minnesota Distance Elite in order to pursue his road running potential while he finishes his nursing degree.
