As a prep at Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, Breanna (Colbenson) was an All-State standout earning second place finishes in cross country her junior and senior years in addition to state championships in the 1600m and 3200m.  She was a four-time letter winner for both cross country and track & field and in all, made 14 WIAA State appearances for cross country and track & field. She was also a basketball letter winner.

 

During her collegiate career at the University of Minnesota – Duluth, Breanna was an eight-time All American.  She was a three-time NCAA DII National Champion Runner-Up, including the 2017 steeplechase second place finisher. In her final cross country appearance in 2016, she finished seventh in the 6k at the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships.  For 2016-17, she was named the NCAA Central Region Athlete of the Year, UMD’s Outstanding Female Senior Athlete and Top Female Scholar Athlete.

 

Upon completion of her eligibility at UMD, Breanna qualified for and competed at the 2017 USATF Outdoor Championships in the steeplechase. Since joining Minnesota Distance Elite in August of 2017, Breanna has competed in events ranging from the mile up to the half marathon. She has competed at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships (2017, 2018), USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships (2018), USATF Cross Country Championships (2019), and represented Team USA for her first time at the 2019 NACAC Cross Country Championships where she placed 1st.
