Minneapolis/St. Paul – Oct. 29, 2019 – Team USA Minnesota’s Katy and Tyler Jermann will be among the professional runners who will compete in the TCS New York City Marathon on Nov. 3. The professional women’s race starts at 9:10 a.m. followed by the professional men and first wave of runners at 9:40 a.m. (both times Eastern).
The course goes through the five boroughs of New York City and ends in Central Park where last year over 52,000 finished the marathon. The race will be televised live on ESPN2 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon (Eastern).
The New York City Marathon will be Katy Jermann’s second marathon, having debuted in the distance last January at the Houston Marathon in a time of 2:33:41. During 2019, she won the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in June with a time of 1:10:27 and was second at the USATF 20k Championships on Labor Day in 1:08:39.
This past year of road racing also included third place at the USATF 10 Mile Championships at Twin Cities, fifth place at the USATF Half Marathon Championships in Pittsburgh, eighth at the USATF 15k Championships in Jacksonville, and ninth at the USATF 10k Championships in New York City.
The elementary school reading teacher and high school coach is a 2015 graduate of Iowa State University (maiden name Katy Moen) and joined Team USA Minnesota that year.
Tyler Jermann has a marathon best of 2:13:29 which he set last January at the Houston Marathon. He has run a number of marathons and has placed in the top 10 at Twin Cities, Grandma’s, Pittsburgh and Houston. He also has a best in the half marathon of 1:03:31 and won the 2017 USATF 50k Championships in a time of 2:48:56.
Tyler joined Team USA Minnesota in 2017 and is also a 2015 graduate of Iowa State University. He is a data scientist currently pursuing a master’s degree in computer science.
