Dakotah 2nd, Danny 3rd at Twin Cities Marathon; Katy 3rd, Annie 5th in the USA 10 Mile Championships

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Oct. 7, 2019 – Team USA Minnesota took full advantage of two races in its back yard with Dakotah Lindwurm finishing second in the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, and Danny Docherty placing third in the men’s field at the marathon.  In the USATF 10 Mile Championships, hosted by the Medtronic TC 10 Mile, Katy Jermann was third and Annie Frisbie was fifth in the women’s field.  The races, on courses that went from downtown Minneapolis to the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul, were held on Oct. 6 in near perfect weather conditions.

Lindwurm and Docherty were running in just their second marathons and both ran personal bests.  Lindwurm finished in 2:32:49 (previous best was 2:34:02 set at Grandma’s Marathon in June), and Docherty crossed the line in 2:15:55 (his first marathon of 2:18:27 was at Houston last January).

In the 10 Mile Championships, Katy Jermann set a new best of 53:44 (previous was 54:03) and Frisbie debuted at the distance in 54:00.  Also running in the 10 Mile was Kevin Lewis who was 17th in 48:25 (previous best was 48:48) and Tyler Jermann who was 23rd in 49:00.

“I’m very proud of the way our athletes competed this weekend,” said Team USA Minnesota coach Chris Lundstrom.  “Dakotah and Danny raced courageously, pushing the pace through the middle miles of the marathon, and holding on very well for big personal bests.  In the 10 Mile Championships, the fields were very strong as always, so to have two in the top five on the women’s side is a great accomplishment.

“For all of our runners to perform substantially better than last year is an indication of the progress and momentum that they have cultivated building toward the Olympic year ahead.  To have these results on our home course, with all of the support of Twin Cities In Motion and our local fans and friends, is especially meaningful.”

Lindwurm and Docherty each took the lead for a number of miles in their respective women’s and men’s fields and also ran well-paced marathon races.  Both improved upon their qualifying times for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials which will be held in Atlanta on Feb. 29, 2020.

Katy Jermann, who along with her husband Tyler Jermann, will compete in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 3, ran patient 10 mile races as part of their preparations for their next marathon in four weeks.  Katy Jermann was in 10th place in the early miles and then moved up to third place over the last 5 miles.  Katy Jermann is now ranked third in the USATF Running Circuit after posting her fifth top 10 effort of the season in the championship circuit.

Frisbie, who joined Team USA Minnesota in September, ran with the leaders much of the way and held on for fifth place in her first race as a professional athlete.

TC 10k and TC 5k Cancelled due to Thunderstorms

The TC 10k and TC 5k that were scheduled for Oct. 5 as part of Twin Cities Marathon weekend were cancelled due to heavy rain and a lightning forecast.  Joel Reichow was signed up to compete in the TC 10k and Colin Abert was set to run in the TC 5k.
